Kyle, TX is along I-35 about 20 miles south of Austin, with a historic downtown area on one side and a newer retail corridor on the other. From Axis Marketplace, you can go fishing at Lake Kyle, catch live music downtown, and see a movie at EVO Entertainment. These destinations are all located within a few miles of the community.

Fresh Pie and Live Music on Center Street

Kyle is often called the Pie Capital of the state, and the Texas Pie Company on Center Street is a big reason why. Chef Julie Albertson opened her first bakery in 1986 and bakes from recipes she learned from her grandmother in East Texas. The bakery sells Southern pecan and buttermilk pies alongside key lime, coconut, and a rotating set of fruit pies.

The kitchen also serves sandwiches, salads, and quiche until an hour before closing, and you can order the frozen family-style casseroles to cook at home. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Center Street is the main stretch of downtown Kyle, with Mary Kyle Hartson Park in the middle. The city hosts live music at the park’s gazebo, and the lawn around it holds most downtown events. A slice of pie and a show at the gazebo make for a relaxing afternoon on Center Street.

Events and Nature at Lake Kyle and Gregg-Clarke Park

Lake Kyle is a city park, with a playground, walking paths, and catch-and-release fishing from the bank. The city holds fishing tournaments here throughout the year. If you enjoy long walks, a shaded trek through the trees stays cool even during the warmer months.

Every Labor Day weekend, the city also holds an event called Pie in the Sky at the lake. More than 25 hot air balloons lift off together around sunrise for a fly-out over Kyle. In the evenings, the pilots fire their burners in unison for a glow show. If you want to fly in one yourself, tethered rides are also available. The rest of the event includes live music, food vendors, and a pie-eating contest.

Gregg-Clarke Park is at the west end of Center Street, with sports fields and a playground. The Veterans Day parade starts from this park each November and heads east. Arrive early, as the sidewalks along Center Street quickly fill with spectators.

Movies and Bowling at EVO Entertainment

EVO Entertainment brings movies, bowling, and an arcade under one roof. Located just off I-35, the theater screens new releases and features luxury recliners. Watching a movie here comes with another perk since you can order dinner or drinks from the full kitchen and bar. Friday and Saturday are the most popular days, so buy tickets in advance for the best seats.

Past the theater you'll find 14 bowling lanes, each with its own couch and TV, plus an arcade with more than 50 games that runs until midnight, seven days a week. It's a few minutes from Axis Marketplace, so a movie and a couple of games fit into the same trip.

A move to Kyle, TX comes with a short list of practical things to sort out first. Commutes, grocery runs, doctor visits, and weekend plans all take shape in the first few weeks. Settling in goes more smoothly once you know which parts of town you will use every week.

The city has grown quickly, and local shopping, education, and healthcare options cover most daily needs. Work, groceries, and medical care all fall within a few miles of Axis Marketplace. The drive times, the errand routes, and the parks are all worth mapping before move-in day.

Commuting to Austin and San Marcos From Kyle, TX

Austin and San Marcos sit in opposite directions from here, both close enough to be routine. Downtown Austin can take about 25 minutes when traffic is light and up to 50 during morning rush. San Marcos is roughly 15 minutes south, while San Antonio about an hour.

The in-between position is the practical advantage. A household with one person working in Austin and another taking classes at Texas State doesn't have to pick a side, and Austin Community College's Hays Campus is minutes away on Kohlers Crossing.

Where to Shop and Run Everyday Errands

Kyle Crossing is home to large-scale stores, including H-E-B Plus, Target, Kohl's, and Lowe's. Roughly 30 businesses operate in the center, and a Walmart Supercenter is on the same road.

Kyle Marketplace features smaller shops and services instead of big-box stores. JuiceLand, The UPS Store, Massage Envy, Chase Bank, and a Starbucks share one row of storefronts. The neighborhood around Axis Marketplace puts Kyle Crossing and the smaller storefronts minutes from your door. That proximity can make it easier to complete several errands in one trip.

Downtown Kyle offers a different kind of trip, trading the usual metropolitan vibe for small-town Texas charm and historic character. Since 2000, Texas Pie Company has served lunch alongside their infamous pies. The menu also includes sandwiches, salads, and quiche until an hour before closing.

Beyond the local bites, you can explore the preserved storefronts that line the historic square or catch a community event in the nearby City Square Park. These spots offer a window into the city’s roots. Exploring downtown gives you a better sense of the history and provides a slower pace for a morning out.

Healthcare, Schools, and Nearby College Campuses

Healthcare, public schools, and college classes are all available inside the city limits. Ascension Seton Hays is the largest medical campus in Hays County, at 6001 Kyle Parkway. The hospital is just east of Interstate 35 and provides maternity care, heart and vascular services, and certified stroke care.

School zoning is the next question for most families moving into the area. Hays Consolidated Independent School District includes 26 campuses in northern Hays County. The district serves more than 20,000 students across Kyle, Buda, and the surrounding parts of the county.

College classes are close as well, starting with the Hays Campus of Austin Community College. The campus is home to the popular first responder training center. Many students may already take courses at the community college and Texas State University during the same semester. Anyone training at the community college or taking classes at TSU benefits from short commutes since the two are within a few miles of each other and close to your home at Axis Marketplace.

Parks, Trails, and Weekends Outdoors

Once the boxes are unpacked and the weekends open up, there are plenty of nearby places to get outside. The city maintains multiple parks, and Lake Kyle Park is the largest developed one at 118 acres. Catch-and-release fishing is open on the 12.5-acre lake, and a state license is required. Walking paths, more than two miles of hiking trails, and a covered pavilion are open daily.

Also worth a weekend visit, Steeplechase Park covers nearly 40 acres with a splash pad and multi-sport fields. Steeplechase Park has an 18-hole disc golf course, a covered pavilion, and playgrounds for younger kids. Lake Kyle Park and Steeplechase Park both connect to the Plum Creek Trail toward Waterleaf Park.

The city is also building The Vybe, a trail network planned to reach about 80 miles when finished. Trails on The Vybe will be 12 feet wide, so people walking, bikers, and golf carts can share the path safely. The network will link neighborhoods with retail centers and restaurants rather than only parks.

Outdoor space closer to home matters just as much on a hot Central Texas afternoon. When the heat rises, the pool at Axis Marketplace is the perfect spot for a swim. Our three courtyards also provide shaded retreats for unwinding in the fresh air. For your pets, we offer two dog parks for morning play sessions and a convenient indoor pet wash to rinse off afterward. Between the pool and these shaded outdoor areas, you can comfortably enjoy the outdoors well into November.

Getting Ready for Move-In Day

A few decisions are easiest to make before the lease starts, such as choosing a floor plan. Axis Marketplace has floor plan options across our one- to three-bedroom apartments. Homes range from 624 to 1,430 square feet, and you can compare multiple apartment options to find the perfect fit. Advantages like the bonus room in the flex floor plans work best if you need a work-from-home office.

Solid planning turns a hectic move into a simple transition to your new home. Start by confirming your move-in date with our team, then schedule your utility transfers and update your mailing address in advance. On the day you arrive at Axis Marketplace, you will have access to elevators and complimentary loading carts to make the process as smooth as possible.

Start with the photo gallery, then come walk the courtyards for yourself. The commute, the hospital, the parks: all of that you can check from your phone. Whether it feels like the right place to live is the part you have to be here for. Schedule a tour at Axis Marketplace today.
