Kyle, TX is along I-35 about 20 miles south of Austin, with a historic downtown area on one side and a newer retail corridor on the other. From Axis Marketplace, you can go fishing at Lake Kyle, catch live music downtown, and see a movie at EVO Entertainment. These destinations are all located within a few miles of the community.
Fresh Pie and Live Music on Center Street
Kyle is often called the Pie Capital of the state, and the Texas Pie Company on Center Street is a big reason why. Chef Julie Albertson opened her first bakery in 1986 and bakes from recipes she learned from her grandmother in East Texas. The bakery sells Southern pecan and buttermilk pies alongside key lime, coconut, and a rotating set of fruit pies.
The kitchen also serves sandwiches, salads, and quiche until an hour before closing, and you can order the frozen family-style casseroles to cook at home. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Center Street is the main stretch of downtown Kyle, with Mary Kyle Hartson Park in the middle. The city hosts live music at the park’s gazebo, and the lawn around it holds most downtown events. A slice of pie and a show at the gazebo make for a relaxing afternoon on Center Street.
Events and Nature at Lake Kyle and Gregg-Clarke Park

Lake Kyle is a city park, with a playground, walking paths, and catch-and-release fishing from the bank. The city holds fishing tournaments here throughout the year. If you enjoy long walks, a shaded trek through the trees stays cool even during the warmer months.
Every Labor Day weekend, the city also holds an event called Pie in the Sky at the lake. More than 25 hot air balloons lift off together around sunrise for a fly-out over Kyle. In the evenings, the pilots fire their burners in unison for a glow show. If you want to fly in one yourself, tethered rides are also available. The rest of the event includes live music, food vendors, and a pie-eating contest.
Gregg-Clarke Park is at the west end of Center Street, with sports fields and a playground. The Veterans Day parade starts from this park each November and heads east. Arrive early, as the sidewalks along Center Street quickly fill with spectators.
Movies and Bowling at EVO Entertainment

EVO Entertainment brings movies, bowling, and an arcade under one roof. Located just off I-35, the theater screens new releases and features luxury recliners. Watching a movie here comes with another perk since you can order dinner or drinks from the full kitchen and bar. Friday and Saturday are the most popular days, so buy tickets in advance for the best seats.
Past the theater you'll find 14 bowling lanes, each with its own couch and TV, plus an arcade with more than 50 games that runs until midnight, seven days a week. It's a few minutes from Axis Marketplace, so a movie and a couple of games fit into the same trip.
